The Adapted Physical Exercise (APEX) program has been running at the University of Windsor since 2010. Led by graduate students and powered by dedicated undergraduate volunteers, APEX partners with Community Living Windsor-Essex County to provide a one-on-one exercise experience for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Sessions take place in the TLC gym at the University of Windsor, where partners work together twice a week in a supportive and inclusive environment. APEX primarily operates as a summer program, with occasional fall and winter sessions depending on demand and availability.

Beyond campus, APEX continues to grow through community partnerships and school-based initiatives. We launched pilot projects in local high schools across the GECDSB, connecting leadership and STEPS students' inclusive fitness sessions that prompt friendship, confidence and social change. As we expand our research, APEX aims to bring adapted physical activity into schools and community spaces, empowering youth to see ability, not disability. We’re also exploring collaboration with the WECDSB and other community organizations to build sustainable, inclusive programming.
